Soil erosion, as the term means, is the erosion or removal of topsoil in a region. It is a result of the action of several natural forces like wind, ice, and water. Though soil erosion happens by natural forces, several factors contribute to the increased rate of soil erosion. Wind erosion is most common for soils lacking moisture, like arid or desert soil. Removal of forest cover, overgrazing, and landslides are some factors causing soil erosion. Water running down the mountain slopes carries the soil with them without forest cover. Eroding activities of ice are observable in the Himalayan ranges.
