What fuel do rockets use to launch into space?

Rockets use different kinds of fuel. Most use liquid fuel such as liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen because it is very powerful and burns cleanly. Some rockets use RP-1, a special type of kerosene, mixed with liquid oxygen. Others use methane or biofuel which is more eco-friendly. For smaller rockets, composite solid fuels are common—they look like a rubbery mixture with metal powder that burns easily. Hybrid rockets can even use a mix of solid fuel and liquid oxidizer. The choice depends on the type of mission and how much power and efficiency is needed.​
