What happens when we stir sugar in water?

The sugar is solid. Solid objects are made up of closely-packed molecules. As the molecules are closely-packed, there is no space between them. But the water is liquid and its molecules are loosely-arranged. So, when sugar is added to water and stirred, the molecules of sugar separate from one another and settle in the spaces between water molecules. Then, it gets dissolved in water.
