A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. In a solution, the composition is uniform throughout, meaning every part of the solution has the same properties and appearance. It is made up of two main components:

1. Solvent: The substance that dissolves the other substance. It is usually present in larger quantities.
2. Solute: The substance that gets dissolved in the solvent.

For example, when sugar is dissolved in water, the sugar (solute) spreads out evenly throughout the water (solvent), forming a single-phase mixture. This uniform distribution makes the mixture a solution.
