Detailed Solution

Thigmonasty is also known as haptonastic movements.

Thigmonasty movements are a type of variation movement that is induced by touch or mechanical stimuli. This is due to the loss of turgor pressure in the pulvini, which are swellings at the base of the petiole or leaflet that act as hinges during movement. In contrast, nyctinastic, thermonastic, and photonastic movements are induced by changes in light, temperature, and light intensity, respectively.

These movements are observed in certain plants such as the Sundew or Drosera, where the tentacles bend after coming in contact with an insect. Mimosa pudica is another example of a plant that exhibits thigmonasty movements, where the leaflets are sensitive to touch and fold upwards.
