Blood pressure is the force of blood against the walls of arteries. It is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and recorded as two numbers, systolic pressure (when the heart beats) over diastolic pressure (when the heart is resting between beats). The force is generated with each heartbeat as blood is pumped from the heart into the blood vessels. A normal blood pressure level is less than 120/80 mmHg.
