A river and its tributaries are called a river system. A river along with its tributaries is called a river system and the term drainage describes the river system of a particular area, the various small streams of water flowing from different directions and collectively come together to form the main river and drain into a larger water body such as a lake or a sea, or an ocean. The area that is drained by a single river system is known as a drainage basin. Examples of rivers- Ganga, Indus, Brahmaputra, and tributaries of the Brahmaputra like Dibang and Lohit which together form the Brahmaputra in Assam is a river system.
