Detailed Solution

Doppler Shift: The difference between apparent frequency heard by the observer and actual frequency produced by the sources is called Doppler shift.
If source is at rest observe is moving :
Consider source observer are separated by distance ‘L’
Let source emits sound of frequency ‘n’, ‘V’ be the velocity of sound.
If observer is moving towards source
Question Image
Let source releases 1st crest at ‘S’. This 1st crest was received by observer after a time
t1=LV+V0 ......(1)
Where ‘V+V0’ is relative velocity of sound w.r.t observer.
2nd crest is released by source after a time interval T (Time period). During this time observer covers a distance (OO|) which is Vot
This 2nd crest was received by observer at a time
t2=T+LV0TV+V0
Time difference between ‘t2’ and ‘t1’ is apparent time period w.r.t observer
T1=t2t1=T+LV0TV+V0LV+V0T1=T+LV+V0V0TV+V0LV+V0T1=TV0TV+V0T1=T1V0V+V0T1=TV+V0V0V+V0T1=TVV+V0
Reciprocal of time period is frequency
n1=nV+V0V
Similarly moving away n1=nVV0V
