Detailed Solution

A feedback mechanism is a system in which the output of a process controls or regulates the process itself. It is very common in biological systems, machines, and even in our daily life. Feedback mechanisms can be positive or negative depending on how the process is controlled.

Types of Feedback Mechanism

  • Negative Feedback: Reduces the effect of changes and keeps balance.
Example: Regulation of body temperature – when we are hot, we sweat to cool down.
  • Positive Feedback: Increases the effect of changes.
Example: Contractions during childbirth – hormone oxytocin increases contractions until the baby is delivered.

Importance of Feedback Mechanism

  • Keeps biological systems in balance (homeostasis).
  • Controls hormones and enzymes.
  • Maintains stability in machines and technologies.
