What is Greenhouse effect and its contribution towards the surface temperature of earth?

Green house effect: The net result of heating up of Earth’s surface and atmosphere due to the absorption and reflecting back of thermal radiation of Earth by Green house gases like CO₂, CH₄, N₂O etc. This effect is called Green house effect. When Solar radiation incident on the Earth’s surface, it absorbs the incident radiation and emits infrared radiation into the atmosphere. These infrared radiations are again reflected back into the atmosphere by the clouds and gases present in the lower atmosphere. Due to this process the average temperature of the Earth surface raises. This phenomenon is called Green house effect. Due to the green house effect the earth becomes warmer and the average temperature of the earth increases. This is known as global warming. This global warming may cause problems for human life, plants and animals. Because of global warming, ice caps are melting faster, sea level is rising and weather pattern is changing.
