What is heterotrophic nutrition?

Heterotrophic nutrition is a mode of nutrition in which organisms obtain their energy and nutrients by consuming other organisms. 

This is different from autotrophic nutrition, which is the process of making food from sunlight or inorganic compounds.

Heterotrophic organisms, such as animals, fungi, and some bacteria, are unable to produce their own food through photosynthesis. 

They must rely on other organisms for their nutrition, either by eating them directly or by consuming their byproducts.
