Hydroelectric energy is a form of energy that harnesses the power of water in motion to generate electricity.

In a hydroelectric power plant, water is allowed to flow more quickly in order to convert its higher level potential energy to kinetic energy. The fast-falling water rotates the turbine of the generator. The water's kinetic energy is transformed into the turbine's mechanical energy. The turbine's axle is attached to the electric generator's armature. Then the armature in the generator's magnetic field is now rotated by the turbine's rotation. As a result, the generator's rotational system's mechanical energy is transformed into electrical energy. Thus, we have electrical energy as output from the hydroelectric power plant.
