Detailed Solution

Hypertension refers to high blood pressure, a condition in which the force of blood against the artery walls remains consistently elevated. Blood pressure is measured using two numbers—systolic (pressure when the heart beats) and diastolic (pressure when the heart rests). Normal blood pressure is around 120/80 mmHg, and values above 140/90 mmHg usually indicate hypertension. It is often called the “silent killer” because it may not show symptoms for years but can lead to serious complications such as heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, and vision problems. Lifestyle changes and medication help manage it.
