What is jhumming?

Jhumming is a type of agriculture.

Jhumming, also called Jhum cultivation or Jhoom farming or Podu cultivation, are the local names of slash and burn agriculture. In this type of farming, the farmers cut the forest's trees and burn the plant remains. The ash is utilized to fertilize the land, which is then cultivated to grow crops. Once the land is no longer fertile, the farmers leave the land and move to the next patch of forest land to repeat this process. The land is left on its own to allow it to regain its fertility.
