Detailed Solution

Concept- The malathion is a man-made organophosphate insecticide which is commonly used to control the mosquitoes and a variety of insects that attack to the fruits, vegetables, landscaping plants, and shrubs.
Malathion functions by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase. When it is absorbed in the body of the target organism, it irreversibly binds to the serine amino acid, which is present at the catalytic site of the enzyme cholinesterase.
This binding results in the formation of phosphoester bond which in turn is tightly bonded to the cholinesyerase enzyme, due to which, the enzyme gets inactivated irreversibly/permanently, in that organism.
Because of the inactivation of enzyme, acetylcholine gets accumulated at the synapse, which eventually leads to its death.
Therefore, Malathion is an insecticide with a comparatively low toxicity to humans (pesticide). It is often used in agricultural crops.
Hence, the correct answer is option 3.
