A light consists of a single wavelength (or colour) is called monochromatic light.
“Mono means one and chroma means colour”.
We can see a band of visible colours emerge out of a prism when white light incident on it.  This is because a white light consists of more than one wavelength (i.e. blue, red, violet, etc colours). A sodium lamp is a source of monochromatic light. Monochromatic light is used in physics experiments to observe the path of light.
