Positive charge means there are fewer electrons than protons, so the object or particle is electron-deficient. Atoms have positively charged protons and negatively charged electrons. If an atom loses one or more electrons, it becomes a positively charged ion (cation). Everyday examples include a rubbed glass rod (loses electrons) and metal ions like Na⁺, Ca²⁺.
