What is Pulikali?

Pulikali (also called Kaduvakali) is a traditional folk art form of Kerala, India, performed mainly during the festival of Onam. In this dance, artists paint their bodies with bright colors to resemble tigers, leopards, or hunters and perform lively dances to the beats of drums like the chenda and udukku. The word Pulikali means “Play of the Tigers” (Puli = tiger, Kali = play).
