Detailed Solution

Rinderpest was a cattle plague that spread in Africa in the 1890s. It had a terrifying impact on people’s livelihoods and the economy of society. This devastating disease arrived in Africa in the late 1880s. At that time Italian soldiers were invading Eritrea in East Africa. The source of this disease was the cattle imported from British Asia to feed these Italian soldiers. This disease spread like “forest fire” reaching the Atlantic coast. Within five years, this disease reached the Cape. It killed almost 90%  of the cattle. The sudden loss of cattle destroyed African livelihood.
