Detailed Solution

Rinderpest was a fast-spreading disease of cattle plague that arrived in Africa in the late 1880s, and infected cattle carried it.
In the latter half of the 1880s, Rinderpest reached Africa. Italian troops conquering Eritrea in East Africa were fed on diseased livestock smuggled from British Asia. Invading from the east, Rinderpest raced westward 'like a forest fire' until 1892 reached Africa's Atlantic coast. Five years later, it arrived at Cape, Africa's southernmost point. Rinderpest killed 90% of the livestock along the route and damaged African livelihoods. Planters, mine owners, and colonial administrations successfully monopolised the few remaining cattle resources to increase their dominance and drive Africans into the labour force. Thus it devastated people's livelihoods and the local economy in Africa.
