What is shearing?

Shearing is the procedure used to remove wool or fleece from an animal's skin, usually a sheep's. Shearing typically takes place once a year, usually in the spring when it's warmer outside and the wool has reached its full length. Electric shears are used to remove the wool from the sheep's body during shearing. Although the shearing procedure is swift and largely painless for the sheep, it is crucial that it be carried out by a trained and skilled individual to prevent harming the animal.
