What is strainer?

A strainer is a device designed to remove large unwanted particles from a liquid suspension. Its primary purpose is to protect downstream equipment such as pumps or delicate filters from damage caused by debris or foreign particles.

Types of Strainers

1. Y-Type Strainers

• The most commonly used strainers, suitable for oil, water, and gas.
• Compact design with a full filtration area, ensuring low pressure drop and better debris collection.
• Includes a drain plug, which can be replaced with a ball valve for continuous blow-off.
• The filter element is reinforced for rigidity and long life and fitted securely into machined seats.

2. Basket-Type Strainers

• Feature top removal of the screen, shaped like a basket with a lifting handle.
• Collects particulate matter, which can be easily removed and disposed of.
• To clean or replace the basket, the line is temporarily shut down.

3. Conical-Type Strainers

• Temporary strainers suitable for various fluid applications.
• Used to trap foreign particles in pipelines during initial operation or maintenance.
• Also function as resin traps in specific applications.

4. Duplex Basket Strainers

• Consist of two parallel basket strainers with diverting valves.
• Allow continuous operation, as one basket can be cleaned while the other remains in use.
