Sanitation is a necessity for every household in the country. Sanitation helps in the prevention of water-borne diseases like malaria, flu, etc. In India, according to official figures, only 36% of households have access to good and functional sanitation facilities (toilet facilities within the residence of people). It is the poor who suffer most because of sanitation issues. Sulabh, an NGO (Non-government organization), has been working for 30 years to provide better sanitation and address the problem of sanitation faced by poor people and low-income people of India. They built 7500 public toilets and 1.2 million private toilets in India.
