What is the best way to understand a mixture?

A mixture is a physical mixture of two or more pure substances that retain each substance's chemical identity. 

A pure material is a one-of-a-kind substance. 

Mixtures are not pure substances, whereas elements and compounds are. 

Compounds aren't the same as the elements they're made up of.
