Detailed Solution

The blue color of the ocean is due to the preferential scattering of light by water molecules. It is because other colours like red, yellow, orange, having longer wavelength than that of blue, are absorbed more by water than blue, having shorter wavelength. So, when white light enters the ocean, blue colour is mostly returned and hence it appears as blue to us.
