The circular part in the centre of retina is called yellow spot. Yellow spot is called ‘macula lutea’ which is a Latin word. ‘Macula’ means spot and ‘lutea’ means yellow . Yellow spot is present on centre of retina near optic nerve and it is responsible for clear vision. It appears yellow because it consists of pigments that are yellow in colour. The yellow spot is as shown in the figure1 below.
