Detailed Solution

French is the language spoken by the people residing in the Wallonia region of Belgium. Belgium's Ethnic composition is extremely complex. 59% of the country's total population lives in the Flemish region and speaks Dutch. Another 40% of the population lives in Wallonia and speaks French. The remaining 1% of Belgians speak German. In the capital city of Brussels, 80% of inhabitants speak French, while 20% speak Dutch. The minority French-speaking community was wealthy and influential. This was despised by the Dutch-speaking community, which subsequently benefited from economic prosperity and education. During the 1950s and 1960s, this created conflicts between the Dutch-speaking and French-speaking communities. The Dutch-speaking inhabitants constituted a majority throughout the country but a minority in Brussels.
