Detailed Solution

The cerebral cortex (of the two cerebral hemispheres) and a number of subcortical structures, such as the hippocampus, basal ganglia, and olfactory bulb, are located in the cerebrum, also known as the telencephalon or endbrain, which is the biggest section of the brain. The cerebrum is the topmost part of the central nerve system of the human brain. Prenatally, the forebrain gives rise to the cerebrum (prosencephalon). In mammals, the basal ganglia develop from the ventral telencephalon, also known as the subpallium, and the cerebral cortex from the dorsal telencephalon, also known as the pallium. The left and right cerebral hemispheres of the brain are roughly symmetrical.
