Detailed Solution

A galvanometer is a sensitive moving-coil instrument that detects and indicates small electric currents by the deflection of a pointer about a central (zero) mark. It’s used primarily to detect current and its direction; by itself it is not meant for precise measurement.

Because a standalone galvanometer is used as a detector, a fixed least count is not meaningful. When you convert a galvanometer into an ammeter (by adding a suitable shunt), it can then measure current; the least count becomes the current per smallest scale division, which can be in the microampere range depending on the design and shunt used.

Hence, the least count of ammeters made from the galvanometer is 0.1 um.
