Detailed Solution

Jhum is the local name of shifting cultivation in North - Eastern regions of India.

The slash and burn agriculture or shifting cultivation has many local names in different states of India. It is called Dahiya in Madhya Pradesh, Khil in the Himalayan belt and Valre in Rajasthan. It's called Jhum or Jhoom or Jhumming in hilly states of northeast India.
In this type of farming, the farmers cut the forest's trees and burn the plant remains. The ash is utilized to fertilize the land, which is then cultivated to grow crops. Once the land is no longer fertile, the farmers leave the land and move to the next patch of forest land to repeat this process. The land is left on its own to allow it to regain its fertility.
