Ribosomes are cellular structures responsible for protein synthesis. The rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) is studded with ribosomes on its cytoplasmic side. The RER is a network of interconnected flattened sacs that are connected to the nuclear envelope and located near the Golgi apparatus.
