Detailed Solution

The main difference between an asteroid and a comet is what they are made of. Asteroids are mostly made of rock and metal, while comets are made of ice, dust, and rocky material. Asteroids are found mainly in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter and don’t have tails. Comets usually come from the outer solar system, and when they get close to the Sun, their ice melts, creating a glowing coma and a long tail. In simple terms, asteroids are rocky space leftovers, while comets are icy travelers from the solar system’s edge.
