Detailed Solution

The main differences between JEE Main and JEE Advanced are:

  • Purpose: JEE Main is the first level of the exam and is for admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other government-funded technical institutes. To appear for JEE Advanced, you must first qualify in JEE Main. JEE Advanced is exclusively for admission to the IITs.
  • Difficulty Level: JEE Advanced is significantly more difficult than JEE Main. The questions in JEE Advanced are more conceptual, require deeper understanding, and often have a more complex marking scheme.
  • Conducting Body: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and now the National Testing Agency (NTA) conduct JEE Main. One of the seven zonal IITs conducts JEE Advanced on a rotational basis.
