Detailed Solution

The meaning of the word Eelam is state. Sri Lanka enrolled in the Free Association in 1948. The Sinhalese and Tamils are Sri Lanka's two main ethnic groups. The Sinhalese adopted some majoritarian actions to establish their authority after Sri Lanka gained independence. In 1956, Sri Lanka decided to make Sinhala its official tongue. The two official languages in use in the country today are Tamil and Sinhala. The governments created favourable policies for government jobs and academic positions that gave Sinhala applicants an advantage. A breakaway state called Eelam was then desired as a result. Tamil people started calling for Tamil Eelam.
