Detailed Solution

Veda means "knowledge. It's a Sanskrit phrase. The Vedas are also known as "sruti literature," which means "heard literature," as opposed to other sacred works, which are known as "smrti literature," meaning "remembered literature." In this sense, they are viewed as the Divine's actual words.
For the traditional schools of Indian philosophy, the Vedas are the supreme spiritual authority. Others may not regard them as the ultimate authority, but they do teach notions from the Vedas, such as the karma principle. The Vedas were written down thousands of years ago, yet it is believed that they still contain knowledge and wisdom that were initially passed down verbally far earlier.
