The minimum age to cast a vote in India is 18 years. Thus it is said to be based on the principle of Universal Adult Franchise. Anyone who is 18 years of age or older can participate in the elections and vote as per their choice without any discrimination being made on the basis of caste, colour, creed, religion or sex. However, this requires the voter's name to be registered in the electoral list of the constituency to which the person belongs. The two most important requirements to enrol oneself on the electoral list are being a minimum of 18 years of age and being an Indian citizen.
