Detailed Solution

The minimum distance of the reflected surface required to hear the echo is 16.5 m.
An echo is the reflection of sound from the reflected surface. Our ears are susceptible to distinguishing the two sounds after the minimum time interval of 0.1 seconds. The speed of sound is 330 m/sec in the air. Therefore, the distance travelled by the sound after propagating from the source and reflecting back to the source in 0.1 seconds is = 330×0.1=33 m.
So the one-way distance from the source to the reflected surface is 332 = 16.5 m.
