Detailed Solution

The current fallow is the name given to a piece of land in India that is left without cultivation for one or less than one agricultural year.
Other than the existing fallow lands, the majority of lands are either of poor quality or incur high cultivation costs. As a result, these lands are only used for farming once or twice every two to three years. If these lands are counted as part of the net sown area, the proportion of NSA in India equals around 54% of the total reported area. The distribution of net planted area varies significantly across states. Punjab and Haryana make up more than 80% of the entire area, whereas, in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, and the Andaman Nicobar Islands, it makes up less than 10%.
