The nature of the image is virtual and erect.
It is known that the magnification (m) produced is the ratio of the image distance (v) to the object distance (u). It can also be defined as the ratio of the image height (h') to the object height (h). Mathematically,
 m=vu=h'h
Now, if the image is formed on the same side of the object, then the image and object distances are both negative, and when the image distance is negative, a virtual image is formed. Hence, the negative magnification represents the virtual image.
