The nature of the image is virtual and erect.
It is known that the magnification

produced is the ratio of the image distance

to the object distance

(u)

. It can also be defined as the ratio of the image height

to the object height

. Mathematically,

m = \frac{v}{u} = \frac{h'}{h}

Now, if the image is formed on the same side of the object, then the image and object distances are both negative, and when the image distance is negative, a virtual image is formed. Hence, the negative magnification represents the virtual image.
