The nature of arid soils is saline.
The colour of arid soils ranges from red to brown. They have a sandy feel and are naturally saline. These soils, like those in western Rajasthan, become cultivable following adequate irrigation. Some areas have a high salt concentration, which evaporates water. Because of the dry climate and high temperatures, evaporation happens more quickly, and the soil lacks humus and moisture. Kankar inhabits the soil's bottom strata due to the higher calcium concentration below. The formation of Kankar layers in the lower horizons limits water entry.
