Detailed Solution

During aerobic breakdown of a molecule of Glucose, the number of ATP formed in various stages of respiration is

Glycolsis : Formation : 4 ATP

                Usage : 2 ATP

               Net gain : 2 ATP

Krebs cycle : 2 ATP

Oxidative phosphorylation due to electron transport system : 34 ATP (oxidation of 10 NADH and 2 FADH2)

Net gain = 2 ATP  +   2 ATP + 34 ATP = 38 ATP
