Detailed Solution

The Peninsular plateau is the oldest landmass in India. Said to be a part of the huge ancient landmass Gondwana land, the plateau is made of igneous and metamorphic rocks. It is spread over the western and southern parts of India, to the south of the River Narmada. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra are the major states in this region. With the Eastern and Western Ghats forming the east and west boundaries of the plateau, the Vindhya and Satpura Ranges border its north. The plateau is triangular in shape, with its apex pointing to the south. It is divided into the Central Highlands and the Deccan Plateau.
