Detailed Solution

The other name of jhum cultivation is shifting cultivation.
Many people practised jhum cultivation, also known as shifting cultivation. It was conducted on small plots of land, most of which were in forests. Cultivators cut the treetops and burned the vegetation on the land to allow sunlight to reach the ground. They fertilised the soil with potash-containing ash from the fire. They axed trees and scratched them with a hoe to prepare the soil for cultivation. Instead of ploughing the land and sowing the seeds, they broadcast or scatter them across the field. When the crop was ready, they moved to another field. The once-cultivated field was left fallow for several years.
