Jhum cultivation is also called shifting cultivation. In this cultivation, the slash-and-burn technique is used for practising agriculture. In this technique, farmers used to burn the plot in which they were growing crops because its fertility decreased, and then they shifted to a new plot of land, and eventually, the plot that was left would regain its fertility. This slash-and-burn method has different names in different areas and countries. However, productivity and fertility of the land are lesser in this method because no fertilizers or modern technology is used in this agricultural technique.
