The period of the Reign of Terror was from 1793 to 1794. The political clubs played a significant role in the post-French Revolution period. It was when the Jacobin club rose and became a part of the government. The leader of this Jacobin club was Maximilian Robespierre. The members of this club mainly belonged to the lower sections of society. The period from 1793 to 1794 is remembered as the Reign of Terror. Maximilian followed the policy to control and punish those not adhering to the rules. He even started to punish the ex-nobles, clergypersons and members of other political parties who were against the Republic. A Revolutionary Tribunal tried these people, and if found guilty, they were guillotined. Thus he was called Dr Guillotine.
