Detailed Solution

It is given that a die is thrown once and we need to find the probability of getting an even number.

It is known that when a dice is thrown once, it has a possible number of outcomes as 61= 6 . The sample space (S) is given as

S=1,2,3,4,5,6

Out of these, the even numbers are 2,4,6=3

Now, the probability of an event (E), denoted by P(E), is given by the ratio of the number of favorable outcomes to the number of the possible outcomes/the number of elements in sample space. Mathematically,

P(E)=number of favourable outcomesnumber of the possible outcomes/the number of elements in sample spaceIn the given case, the event is that the number is even. Its probability is calculated as

P=(even number)=36

P(even number)=12
