The water enters the vacuole through the process of osmosis. The tonoplast, which is the membrane surrounding the vacuole, contains proteins called aquaporins that control the flow of water into and out of the vacuole through active transport. The vacuole also actively pumps potassium (K+) ions into and out of its interior.  Due to osmosis, water will diffuse into the vacuole, putting pressure on the cell wall. This pressure, known as turgor pressure, is responsible for maintaining the shape of the plant cell and is essential for plant growth and development. Therefore, the process responsible for the entry of water into the vacuole is osmosis.
