Pulse polio programme is an awareness campaign initiated by the government under which children below the age of 5 are given free polio doses to prevent polio. Polio is a very common disease found in almost all areas in India. Two out of every five children must be suffering from polio which affects their growth and functions. Polio is a deadly disease at times when timely care is not taken of. Polio is caused by a virus that usually occurs among young children and infants. That is the reason why children by given anti-polio doses at a very young age in order to avoid this disease.
