Detailed Solution

There were stories of fights between weavers and gomasthas in numerous weaving communities. In the past, supply merchants frequently resided in the weaving villages and maintained strong relationships with the weavers, attending to their needs and assisting them in difficult situations. The new gomasthas had no enduring social ties to the village and were outsiders. To punish weavers for supply delays, they acted arrogantly, marched into towns with sepoys and peons, and frequently beat and flogged them. The weavers lost their ability to negotiate rates and sell to other customers since the company offered them an appallingly low price, and the loans they had taken out bound them to the company.
