Detailed Solution

A reflex arc is a neural pathway that mediates a reflex action. It typically consists of a sensory neuron, an inter-neuron, and a motor neuron. When a stimulus is detected by a sensory receptor, the sensory neuron sends an electrical signal to the spinal cord or brain-stem, where the inter-neuron is located.

The inter-neuron processes the incoming information and determines the appropriate response. It may inhibit or facilitate the activity of the motor neuron, which then sends an electrical signal to the effector (muscle or gland) to produce the reflex action.
